Why Rosie's Book?

While growing up, I had a dear friend, Renee, that lived next door and with whom I spent much of my childhood. We grew, in different directions, and went on our merry way. Many years later, I ran into her parents and they kindly reminded me of the laughs they still have over my book. “What book?” I wondered with a puzzled look. "I don't remember a book." Hardy laughter accompanied their response. At some time during our childhood, I tried to convince Renee about something that her parents didn’t agree with. I told her that proof of its truth could be found “in my book.” Naturally she went home and tried to convince her parents of the same thing but they weren’t falling for it. She needed an edge and told them emphatically, “It’s in Rosie’s book!” After they caught their breaths from reborn laughter, they let me know how “Rosie’s book” has been cited for many other things throughout the years. They’ve also mentioned that they’d like to see “Rosie’s book” one day. I can’t remember all of the things that I said were in “my book” but I’m sure my dear friend’s parents can recall much more than I ever knew about – LOL!!! So, here it is . . . my version of things you might find In Rosie’s Book . . .

Decorated Sizzix Big Shot Pro Pillow Purse

I've seen some beautifully decorated paper craft items in many fun shapes.  The March 2011 issue of Scrap & Stamp magazine showcases Purses Galore and includes some cute purse-shaped cards for inspiration.

After eyeing it up for nearly a year, I finally treated myself to the Sizzix Big Shot Pro and a pillow purse die.  Ahhh . . . it was so easy to get this great purse outline shape.  I love that I can use any patterned paper or cardstock for magnificent effects.  If I ever see any clear cardstock in 12x12" then I have to pick it up!

I used KI Memories Posh Society double-sided patterned paper for these great big circle shapes in such pretty colors.  It makes me think this could make a cute birthday gift package.  I used Cats Eye chalk ink in Prussian Blue to ink all edges.

I attached the handle to each outside flap using Tim Holtz idea-ology washers and long fasteners.  Another washer on the inside allows the handle to be movable.

I found a pretty rhinestone brad in a K&Company Christmas Cheer package and thought it would make a nice closure.

I love the way this 1/2" lace looks across the front flap when pleated on the underside.  Fabri-Tac really worked wonders on this.

Now I'm ready to add some red line tape on the far seam of each outside flap and secure the sides to close this little pillow purse.  Sweet.  The assembled purse is about 6" wide, 5 3/4" tall and the bottom is about 2 1/4" deep (the depth narrows toward the top until the flap folds over for closure).

I added some Basic Grey Magnetic Snaps to secure my top flap closure.  I had a little trouble finding an adhesive to hold the magnet over the brad and finally had success with Tombo Mono Metal Liquid Glue.  I added some cardstock reinforcements to lighten the magnetic hold yet allow it to hold firmly.

Finally I die cut two sets of Magnolia Doohickeys Doily Flowers and painted their surfaces with Diamond Stickles.  I used coordinating smooth aqua cardstock from my scrap stash to punch some McGill pine branches and spread some stickles over them too.  Finally, when dry, I attached the layered flowers with a brad and glued the whole sparkling, lacy bloom to the purse front.

I really enjoyed putting this Sizzix Pillow Purse together and I'm happy with the daintiness of the lace and jewel tones.  It looks like a sweet gift package that will hold an assortment of smaller items like candy, lip gloss and other make up products, tea lights, and of course movie tickets, money and gift cards.  What do you envision being inside?

Card Art with Copics: Magnolia Mini World

Have you seen the Magnolia Stamps Mini World miniatures?  Have you wondered why you would want a Magnolia in such a tiny size?  Well . . . here's a treat to tempt you.

I'm thrilled to have gotten my hands on a couple of these babies.  I've used the Magnolia miniature Edwin on Sled and Winter Forest to create the background of a little snow scene with the Magnolia Tilda with Fir from the 2010 Merry Little Christmas Collection.

This photo shows the three stamped images filled with Copic markers on a 5 1/4 x 4" piece of Bazzill Smooth White.

I attempted to create some shadows and used my Copic Cool Gray markers to add some cold-looking snow.  Things in the distance appear to be smaller and these miniatures are absolutely perfect for adding that effect.  This photo shows my fair attempts at using these miniatures to create depth in my card art . . .

Here's a photo of this snow scene adhered to the front of a Bazzill A2 card (4 1/4 x 5 1/2").  Since Magnolia images are of angels that speak from their hearts, I imagine that Edwin is sledding toward Tilda so they can put that tree on the sled for the rest of the trip home.  I had to remind myself that Magnolias are sweet because my first thought was "Men!  Go Figure."  LOL!!!  He's playing around while she's doing all the work!  . . . Remember . . . They're angels that speak from their hearts, Rose . . .

I added some atyou Spica clear for glimmer over the trees, the fur on Tilda's coat and places in the snow.  I'm not sure that I want to add any embellishments to the card front as they may distract from the snow scene.  Hmmm . . . do you have any suggestions?

Magnolia Stamps Sampler Mini Book, Continued (IV)

I find myself drawn to images of animals and Magnolia Stamps Wilma with Rose from the 2010 Raising the Ceiling Collection was no exception.  This little cutie deserves her own space in my Magnolia Stamps Sampler Mini Book.

I stamped Wilma onto a 3 1/4" square of Bazzill Smooth white paper and filled her in using Copic markers.  I masked Wilma and airbrushed her outline.  I used a Toner Gray No. 6 and decided that was too dark but I'm going to use this image anyway to serve as a reminder not to use such a dark outline next time.  A pierced and drawn border adds a homemade touch.

I also stamped Wilma twice onto Grafix shrink plastic using Staz-on.  I cut around the images and punched a hole in each to allow room to hang them as charms.  I used the same Copic colors to fill the reverse side of the stamped images and used my heat gun to shrink them.  Wilma on the left shows the colored side and Wilma on the right shows the stamped side.

I used a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Charm Clip with Jump Ring to attach a shrink plastic charm to my paper Wilma and adhered the paper to my book page.

I added some punched McGill Pine branches with some Punch Bunch small birch leaves and attempted to use a 12" length of Melody 3/8" Ruby Red Ribbon from Beaux Regards to create a folded rolled rose.  I used Fabri-tac adhesive to hold my rose together and add it to the page.

The Tattered Angels Vintage Seasons Timeless Romance stamp had a fine sentiment for this Magnolia Wilma with Rose page.  This photo shows the completed page . . .

Magnolia Stamps Sampler Mini Book, Continued (III)

I thought it would be appropriate to add a new baby image to my Magnolia Stamps Sampler Mini Book to bring in the New Year.  Here I used Magnolia's Sleeping Baby Tilda and the New Baby text from the 2010 Cozy Autumn Collection.

As my background paper is American Crafts I Do Gerber Daisies, I filled my image using Copic markers in coordinating colors.  Here's Sleeping Baby Tilda with her golden angel wings . . .
Her wings just weren't golden enough for me so I added a thin layer of Ranger's Stickles in Gold.  Ahhh, now they're more angelic-looking.
I used QuicKutz Cookie Cutter Oval nesting dies to die cut the image then airbrushed around the die . . .
After adhering a light blue satin ribbon and bow with a dangling pacifier charm, I outlined the edges of my scalloped page using Ranger's Stickles Star Dust.

I spread some Diamond Stickles on the surface of some McGill pine branch punches, QuicKutz leaves, and some quilled leaves and yellow flowers.  The quilled flower strips were first fringed with angled and straight fringing tools.  Then the fringed paper strips were quilled as usual.  I love the swirly look of the angled flower.  A touch of Gold Stickles fills the centers of two of the flowers.

Here's the completed full page . . .

Layout Challenge: American Crafts I Do

Oh what fun it can be to take a line of paper that was made with a specific theme in mind and use it for something unexpected.  That's what I did with this American Crafts I Do Bouvardia and Hydrangeas double-sided patterned paper.

Here's how the products looked before I began.  This photo shows the monthly Scrappers Cove layout contest kit:  American Crafts I Do Bouvardia and Hydrangeas, Bazzill pink bling and gray, Memento Dew Drop in Cantaloupe and a variegated grey ribbon.

I used the tree die from the QuicKutz Cookie Cutter tree and birds set to create a disposable cardstock stencil.  I taped it over the background layers of my layout.  (The pink layer is cut from the Sizzix Bigz Pro Ornate Square die.)

Once that was in place, I used Ranger's Adirondack Paint Dabber in Mushroom to cover the inside of my tree stencil.  While the paint was still wet, I quickly sprinkled lots of Sparkle N Sprinkle Crystal Ice Glitter over the paint.

While that was drying, I used some Bazzill Basics embroidery thread to hand stitch a little border along a photo mat.  I used the QuicKutz 12" Flourish border die cut in an attempt to dress up the area under the ribbon.

I die cut my title from chipboard and patterned paper using Sizzix' Shadowbox alphabet then stamped over it.  Spreading some Ranger's Rock Candy Distress Stickles over the title letters, really made them sparkle.  A few cuts to the Sizzix pine tree, covered in glitter mixed with white Flower Soft continued the flow of the wintry-cold Christmas theme of my layout.

Here's how the completed layout looks:

I think that enough of the sparkly bare branched tree shows and adds another layer of that wintry-cold Christmas feeling.

Copic Creations Challenge: Sparkle!

The Copic Creations Challenge, running through January 14, 2011, is all about adding sparkle to make your Copic artwork bright and shiny.  JustRiteStampers is offering two cling stamp sets and a mini binder storage box AND Marianne Walker is offering an atyou Spica set for the random winner of this challenge.  Whew!  That's a major prize just for entering!  Find out more about the challenge, JustRiteStampers and Marianne Walker here.

The Scrappers Cove added these items to this month's card art kit challenge:  Bo Bunny A Gift of Love double-sided patterned paper in Winter Joy Snow Angels and Winter Joy Snow Fall, Bazzill cardstock in purple and light green, a "chilly" ribbon slide, a Doodlebug pastel sugar coated brad, iCandy Winter Joy enamel brad, Hero Arts felt snowflakes in purple and blue.

I used a Spellbinders Scalloped Octagon to die cut my stamped and Copic filled image of the Magnolia Snowy Hug from the 2010 Merry Little Christmas Collection.

I masked the diecut using a mask of the filled image and the Spellbinders border then airbrushed a background.

I added sparkle with Ranger's Star Dust Stickles straight from the bottle and by painting some over areas using a paint brush.

After edging the card with Colorbox Chalk Ink in Prussian Blue, I used Stamp-n-Stuff Kaleidoscope Transparent embossing powder to line the edges of my card.  Metallic Ribbon, distributed by Michael's, adds some sparkle between patterned paper pieces.  My Sentiments Exactly Innie & Outie adds a touching sentiment.    Punch Bunch snowflakes and Bazzill Basics self-adhesive jewels add a little more shimmer.

I love how the Magnolia Doohickeys Poinsettia and Bon Voyage Foliage adds a beautiful, simple touch.

Here's a side view of the full card that I'm entering for the Copic Creations Sparkle! challenge and submitting for the Scrappers Cove card kit challenge.
