Why Rosie's Book?

While growing up, I had a dear friend, Renee, that lived next door and with whom I spent much of my childhood. We grew, in different directions, and went on our merry way. Many years later, I ran into her parents and they kindly reminded me of the laughs they still have over my book. “What book?” I wondered with a puzzled look. "I don't remember a book." Hardy laughter accompanied their response. At some time during our childhood, I tried to convince Renee about something that her parents didn’t agree with. I told her that proof of its truth could be found “in my book.” Naturally she went home and tried to convince her parents of the same thing but they weren’t falling for it. She needed an edge and told them emphatically, “It’s in Rosie’s book!” After they caught their breaths from reborn laughter, they let me know how “Rosie’s book” has been cited for many other things throughout the years. They’ve also mentioned that they’d like to see “Rosie’s book” one day. I can’t remember all of the things that I said were in “my book” but I’m sure my dear friend’s parents can recall much more than I ever knew about – LOL!!! So, here it is . . . my version of things you might find In Rosie’s Book . . .

Card Art with Copics: Meljen's Designs Mother Hen

Images of things in nature, including animals, make wonderful objects to practice handling Copic ink and exercise layering Copic colors.  This sweet Meljen's Designs digital image, designed by Melissa Jenkins, is named Mother Hen and is perfect for learning to trust the blending qualities of Copic ink as well as sweeping light layers of color.

I took advantage of the imperfections in nature and quickly swept some bright colors where I thought they should be.  When it looked good enough, I swept a layer of warm gray over the entire image to add some warmth  and consistency as well as tone down those bright colors.  When working with Copic colors, it's important to maintain the right moisture in the paper while layering colors.  Sweeping light layers of colors over areas of my image works well for me.  Here's a closer view of my Copic-filled image . . .

This Mother Hen, happy to have her five little chicks staying very close to her, is a loving and very touching image.  It seems to symbolize the infinite love of mother and child(ren).

I layered some Bazzill cardstock and some of the newly released Memory Box Viola collection in wildbloom and flowers to create my card.  A Tattered Angels Vintage Seasons Timeless Romance banner and sentiment seemed appropriate for the intent of my card.  I used a QuicKutz chicken die cut to add my male chicken.  A bit of Prima Say It In Crystals adds some bling to two corners while a Prima Sugar Plum Rose Eggplant and mulberry paper mini roses with Heirloom Paper Leaves in Gold Dust add a flower cluster to another corner.

Here's the completed card front showing my use of Meljen's Designs Mother Hen . . .
